SPRING MEETING Sijan Film Screening
Please join us for the very special WAFAPA "Spring" Meeting on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at 1:00 p.m., Vette Theater on the EAA campus in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. We will be honoring our "WAFAPA Class of 2022" parents whose cadets will be graduating on May 25, 2022. We are very proud of our Wisconsin Firsties will are now officially Wisconsin Second Lieutenants! We are also very honored to be joined by Janine Sijan-Rozina. Janine will present to our group the feature-length documentary film, "Sijan", that she has produced which preserves the legacy of her brother, Captain Lance Sijan, USAFA 1965. Q&A with Janine will follow the film. "Sijan" tells the story of the man who hailed from Bay View Wisconsin and became the only United States Air Force Academy graduate to be awarded the Medal of Honor. Captain Sijan made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. In 1967 -- just two years after graduating from USAFA -- Captain Sijan's F4-C exploded over the jungle in Laos. Captain Sijan was severely injured after ejecting from the aircraft. He eluded the enemy and survived for 46 days after the crash before being captured. Despite his injuries, Captain Sijan escaped, and after being re-captured, was brutally tortured but refused to answer his interrogator's questions. Captain Lance Sijan died on January 22, 1968. "I am a witness to a thousand acts of compassion, sacrifice, and endurance. But of all the men whose dignity humbles me, one name is revered among all others. I never knew Lance Sijan, but I wish I had." Sen. John S. McCain Tickets are available for purchase now through our Eventbrite site: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/wafapa-screening-of-sijan-with-discussion-led-by-janine-sijan-rozina-tickets-331470335697 Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for kids to age 12, and no charge for current USAFA cadets and appointees. The traditional New Appointee Orientation is an invaluable resource for incoming basic cadets and their families to get questions answered and to meet other cadets and fellow appointees from Wisconsin.
